Coconuts are a very important source of income, and until recently they were the principal form of 'currency' in the Kuna Yala.All visitors are told to remember that ALL coconut palms are privately owned, even the ones on uninhabited islands. You must never help yourselves to the coconuts ... and anyway, they only charge 50c per coconut!!
